Our Story

Originally under the wing of Team Poly, renowned for their polyethylene rainwater tanks and a fleet of service trucks spanning the nation. Our trucks faced a constant threat – animal strikes that left them battered and stranded.

Drawing upon our roto-moulding expertise, we rallied our best engineers and set out to create a solution. And we delivered! Our lightweight, durable, and resilient bull bar solved our biggest issue, keeping the fleet on the road longer and bidding farewell to those dreaded repair bills.

Realising this potential, we expanded the range to suit the most popular 4WD and SUV vehicles growing from strength to strength. It was back in ’96 when we were first making waves with our revolutionary polymer frontal protection systems, our products have been the chosen solution since protecting a large number of occupants and emergency service workers.

While our bull bars are a common sight on fleet vehicles, most notable on every Ambulance vehicle, in 2014 ARB 4×4 accessories realised our potential and acquired the SmartBar business. Our team, and together as ARB SmartBar, we have advanced our vehicle product offering and gained greater access to technology and manufacturing innovation. Continuously improving our designs and with a greater network retail channels we now offer consumers our industry leading automotive products globally.

While automotive protection has been key to our story, it isn’t written on every page.

Our aquaculture products have sustainably been utilised in producing world class seafood in South Australia for years as we continue to innovate. Incorporating food-grade polymers, we ensure a safe and reliable environment for aquaculture activities.

The SmartBar portfolio of products also spans into agriculture, designed for use in the most critical situations. Our durable firefighter units were instrumental in saving rural properties for years, notably the wild bush fires on Kangaroo Island in 2020 almost wiping out residents’ homes if not for our 600L firefighter unit.

We continue to design and develop innovative products in response to a market need for rotational moulded products and the benefits they entail. Whether its lighter weight vehicle protection, environmentally tough and resilient products in mining or ocean fronts. Our innovative, eco-friendly roto-moulding manufacturing proudly continues to defy trends by manufacturing on site at our factory in South Australia.

Every ARB SmartBar is designed specifically for the respective make and model of the vehicle that it will be fitted to, considering every aspect from safety to aesthetic. We make it an integral part of the vehicle not only in function but also form.

Utilising advanced 3D CAD modelling software, ARB SmartBar’s designers can fully integrate the product to the vehicle’s profile without affecting on-board safety systems including airbag deployment, crumple zones, parking assist and autonomous emergency braking. This is all while maintaining the vehicle’s ANCAP star-rating.
